Pays Basque-a world of its own by the Atlantic sea

02/04/2025

Pays Basque is a part of the world in its own right and borders Spain. French, Spanish and the local language Basque are spoken here. The houses are beautiful with white plastered walls and red knots, the culture is very important and everywhere you can take part in various events and village festivals with local elements such as dance, food and other Basque traditions.

The food consists of fish and seafood that is purchased directly from the fishermen in the harbor or at the local markets that are open from early morning to lunchtime.
In the afternoons when the tide has returned, the surfers come and here age does not matter, here you surf old and young and the children learn this art already as children.

Biarritz and Bayonne on the French side and San Sebastian on the Spanish side, are the larger cities in the area. But the small villages of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Bidart and Guéthary are absolutely fantastic to visit at any time of the year.
